When Canada turns 146 on July 1, you can bet that celebrations will be in high gear across the country. With all the concerts, parades, and fireworks, there’s plenty of action to take part in and we at the Ford Blog don’t want you to miss out on the fun!
So be sure to pull out your best red and white outfit, and check out these festivities going on in different cities across Canada during the holiday.
Ottawa
Canada’s capital will be ripe with celebrations on the big day, with Parliament Hill stealing the spotlight from the rest of the nation. Throughout the day, there will be musical performances on the hill from some of the country’s biggest names in music, including Metric, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Ed Robertson. As well, there will be an appearance from Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
But the party doesn’t stop there. At 10 p.m. ET, there will be a massive fireworks show. Just how massive? There will be 1,177 fireworks items and 2,356 projectiles/effects, according to organizers. That sounds pretty good to us!

Vancouver
There’s a party you don’t want to miss at Granville Island on July 1. There will be the 14th annual Canada Day parade on the Island with the New Orleans-inspired Brotherhood of Brass Band leading the way. After you take in the march, kick back and relax on the Island to the sounds of the many Jazz performances. If the kids aren’t into jazz, that’s no problem. They’ll have a blast at the children’s pavilion.

Winnipeg
The Forks, located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, will be a prime spot for the city’s Canada Day party. If you’re a fan of Manitoba’s music scene, you’re in luck, as there will be a plethora of local bands taking the stage throughout the day. In addition, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will perform and accompany a large fireworks display. For a closer look at the lineup for the day, click here.

Halifax
Tokyo Police Club
Dartmouth Crossing is presenting Canada Day 2013 for the Halifax Regional Municipality, where there will be events from sunrise to sunset. Enjoy a pancake breakfast, an O Canada sing-along, a tattoo parade, and fireworks. But the biggest event of the day is the free concert from 2011 Juno nominees, Tokyo Police Club.

Toronto
Toronto’s official Canada Day celebration will take place at Mel Lastman Square. Beginning at 5 p.m., the area will play host to plenty of family-friendly options, including craft activities for children, music and dance performances, comedy, acrobatic shows, and, of course, fireworks!
