The Mustang is no stranger to social media. It’s actually the most ‘Liked’ car of all time on Facebook, with more than 5.5 million fans. It also has more than one million photos tagged on Instagram.

These numbers figure to increase drastically in the coming days, with the recent announcement that the sixth-generation Mustang will be revealed on Dec. 5 on Good Morning America.

The new model of the iconic pony car will hit showrooms next year, which also marks the 50th anniversary of the Mustang. So, we figured that now is a good time to look back and share what makes the car so special.

Here’s a quick look at some famous appearances the Mustang has made in films over the years.

Bullitt

Nobody can forget the classic car chase scene from the 1968 film Bullitt. It features a 1968 Ford Mustang GT, driven by legendary actor Steve McQueen.

Diamonds Are Forever

Yes folks, even James Bond himself has driven a Mustang. In the 1971 film Diamonds Are Forever, Sean Connery drove the Ford Mustang Mach 1 in his portrayal of Mr. Bond.

Gone in Sixty Seconds

Nicholas Cage drove a 1967 Shelby GT500 “Eleanor” in the 2000 film Gone in Sixty Seconds. Think what you want of Mr. Cage’s acting (I, personally, am a fan), but you can’t deny the Mustang’s beauty.

Transformers

This one might not be so easy to spot, but in the 2007 Transformers film, the Decepticon Barricade morphed into a Ford Mustang Saleen S281E police/security car. And hey, I’m not afraid to admit my love for Transformers. Don’t judge.

I Am Legend

No list would be complete without the Fresh Prince. In the 2007 blockbuster I Am Legend, Will Smith drove a 2007 Shelby GT500 to escape from the …. We won’t ruin the film for those of you who haven’t seen it.
