Volkswagen Group China delivers 3.68 million cars in 2014

Volkswagen Group China set a new record for China’s auto industry: With its two Chinese Joint Ventures, Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, the Group delivered 3.68 million cars (2013: 3.27 million) in 2014 to customers in the Chinese mainland and Hongkong, realizing growth of 12.4 per cent. Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group as well as President and CEO of Volkswagen Group China, stated: “We have achieved another record year with double-digit growth that outpaced the general market. This is a great testament to the hard work of our employees and the quality of our products. Through our strong commitment to sustainability, we have set our goal to shape a greener future in the years ahead.”

In the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, Volkswagen Group China and its two joint ventures clearly exceeded prior-year deliveries. In 2014, 3.68 million vehicles were delivered to customers, including around 221,000 imported vehicles, with a growth of 2.8 per cent in imported vehicles.

With a total of 2.76 (2013: 2.51) million units delivered the Volkswagen brand reported a year-on-year increase of 10.0 per cent. This strong performance was supported amongst others by the success of the Lavida and Santana as well as of the New Jetta and Sagitar.

Group brands showed excellent performance in China

Audi continued its growth and further extended the brand’s leadership in the Chinese premium market. In 2014, Audi deliveries increased by 17.7 per cent to 578,900 cars in China (incl. Hong Kong). Audi AG thus became the first premium carmaker to deliver over a half a million units in China within a single year. In December alone, Audi handed over 62,600 automobiles to Chinese customers and registered the highest monthly deliveries total in its history. In addition to further increasing deliveries in the full-size category, the growth of Audi in 2014 was also fueled by the locally produced Audi A3 Sedan available since fall and the entire SUV family. Compared to one year ago, Chinese dealerships delivered twice as many of the Audi Q3 compact SUV alone (+103 per cent).

ŠKODA grew at a fast pace in China, its biggest single market worldwide. In 2014 the deliveries of the brand increased by more than 20 per cent to the new record figure of over 280,000 vehicles. 30,800 vehicle deliveries in December meant the manufacturer was able to deliver more than 30,000 vehicles to Chinese customers in a single month for the first time in history – that was ŠKODA’s best-ever sales month in China.

In the luxury segment, Lamborghini handed over 236 cars, Bentley showed a strong performance and delivered around 2,600 units. The sports car manufacturer Porsche delivered a total of more than 46,900 vehicles in 2014 with a growth of 25.4 per cent. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also reported a strong increase in 2014 with a growth of 78.9 per cent, delivering almost 4,500 units in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
