Audi has received the “red dot award: product design 2012” for the outstanding design quality and formal idiom of the Audi A6. The expert jury panel was won over by the premium quality and combination of design and technology of the A6 family, which includes the Audi A6 Sedan, the Audi A6 Avant and the Audi A6 allroad quattro. The model family built around the Audi A6 prevailed in a competition with more than 4.500 designs.
The design of the Audi A6 showcases the aesthetics of technology. With the sportiest proportions in its field, its long engine hood, its low, tight roof line and its distinctive outlines produce a dynamic overall image. The roomy interior of the Audi A6 also reflects the style of the exterior design. Its most striking element is an inlay that surrounds the driver and front passenger, known as the “wrap-around”. “Design plays the most important role in the decision to buy,” said Head of Design Wolfgang Egger, who is delighted to receive the renowned prize: “Being presented with the red dot award is a credit to our design language and confirms our focus on craftsmanship and precision.”
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot design award, underscored the high level of quality in the competition: “With their achievements, the award-winners have not only shown extraordinary design quality, but also that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions.”
The world-renowned “red dot award” is presented in three categories: “red dot award: product design”, “red dot award: communication design” and “red dot award: design concept”. This benchmark of quality will be presented on July 2 as part of the traditional red dot gala in the Aalto Theater in Essen.
