Porsche To Rock the Monterey Peninsula with Dual Events Oct. 14-16

Rennsport Reunion IV, Race Car Classic Ready for This Weekend

Monterey, Calif. – Oct. 12, 2011 – This weekend, Porsche will rock the Monterey Peninsula with two of the greatest events ever held on this famous piece of land by the sea. Thousands of motorsports enthusiasts from around the country will convene here for Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV and Porsche Race Car Classic, which, together, will show the reverence that Porsche owners and fans have for the sports car marque.

Beginning on Friday, Oct. 14, Rennsport Reunion IV will fill Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. with the sights and sounds of more than 60 years of Porsche’s fastest race cars that were driven by scores of famous Porsche pilots. More than 350 race cars and their fearless owners will battle for victory in eight different racing groups. And more than 60 of the former and current driving legends will help bring Porsche’s rich motorsports history to life.

The three-day program of on-track competition is complemented by a concours d’elegance, which is open to invited race participants, and special activities celebrating the decades-long history of the legendary 911 race cars. Other features include multiple autograph sessions, meet-the-driver and meet-the-engineer programs and the introduction of the new 2012 Porsche 911 street car.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Oct. 16 – even as the racing and programs continue at Rennsport – Porsche Race Car Classic will be take place just 15 miles down the road on the lush grounds of the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California. For one day only the Porsche Race Car Classic will present the largest and most comprehensive collection of early Porsche race cars ever assembled.

From 356 Gmünd Coupes of 1949 to iconic 904s of 1964 — examples of every race car Porsche made between 1949 and 1965 will be on display in unprecedented numbers. And don’t expect to see all pristine machines. The 175 race cars to be displayed were chosen for the quality of their race histories over the glossiness of their paint. The Race Car Classic will also offer a feast of gourmet food and vintage wines, and all net proceeds will go towards funding lung cancer research.

It goes without saying that this is not a question of either, or rather a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the best of both worlds.
