Nationalgalerie and Volkswagen continue their collaboration

As part of the partnership established with the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin the Volkswagen Group will support the exhibition “August Kopisch”, taking place in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin from March 19 through July 17, 2016. With this event Volkswagen underlines its ongoing commitment to one of the most prestigious German art institutions.

The support for this exhibition is an element of the ongoing partnership between Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Volkswagen Group, which started in 2013. The show of Kopisch’s work invites the German public to experience the oeuvre of an extraordinary yet widely little-known German artist. Besides supporting the realization of the exhibition itself, Volkswagen will also help expand the educational offerings of the museum.

In presenting August Kopisch, the Alte Nationalgalerie focuses on an artist considered one of the most versatile of his era, and one who has bridged the range between art and technical innovation. Part of the challenging legacy of Kopisch – who worked during the first half of the 19th century – is the creation of numerous paintings and literary works as well as the discovery of the legendary Blue Grotto on the Italian island of Capri and the invention of a high-speed oven. This singular and complex body of work can now finally be enjoyed in a comprehensive museum exhibition displaying nearly120 objects.

Support for this exhibition is embedded in the framework of a broadened partnership with the Nationalgalerie and affirms Volkswagen’s long-term affiliation with the arts and the cultural sphere in order to facilitate interaction with works of art and their underlying ideas and visions. These endeavors are a key element of Volkswagen’s social responsibility. Educational programs are especially significant because they offer young people an introduction to the arts and culture, boosting the potential of individual creativity.
