Maxim Vengerov at the Audi Summer Concerts

The UNICEF Child Friendly City Year in Ingolstadt will come to a close on June 30, with a benefit concert taking place as part of the Audi Summer Concerts. As UNICEF Germany is also celebrating its 60th anniversary on that day, award-winning violinist Maxim Vengerov will perform together with the Ingolstadt Georgian Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Lavard Skou Larsen.

Vengerov, who was appointed an international ambassador for UNICEF in 1997, has performed with all the major orchestras of the world. He is now coming to give a solo performance during the Audi Summer Concerts in his role as UNICEF ambassador. The world-renowned violinist, who was obtained at short notice for this benefit concert, will perform with the Georgian Chamber Orchestra for the children in Burkina Faso. The concert program has been modified accordingly. The Havanaise, Op. 83 and the composition “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” Op. 28 for violin and orchestra by Camille Saint-Saëns will now be performed in lieu of Symphony No. 26 in D minor “Lamentatione” by Joseph Haydn.

“Initiatives like the cooperation between UNICEF Germany, the City of Ingolstadt and Audi are most valuable. They do not only raise funds but also foster understanding  – like music does, overcoming frontiers,” says Maxim Vengerov.

The proceeds of the evening, as well as all donations made during the UNICEF Child Friendly City Year, will go to assist the Legmoin community in Burkina Faso. The initiative is helping to finance the construction of two schools and two childcare facilities.

During the second half of the concert, the Ingolstadt Georgian Chamber Orchestra and cellists Ofer Canetti and Milan Vrsajkov will perform two contemporary works; one by South African composer Kevin Volans and the other by Italian composer Giovanni Sollima. The program will conclude with Mozart’s Symphony No. 28 in C major.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the booking office of the DONAUKURIER regional newspaper, the Tourist Information Office located in Ingolstadt’s main train station, Ticketservice in Westpark shopping mall and the Ticketshop Karlskron. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://www.sommerkonzerte.de/ and by phoning 01805 97 90 70 (€0.14/min when calling from a landline in Germany).
