GM Canada December Sales Up 17 Per Cent 2013 Calendar Year Sales Up 4 Per Cent

Oshawa, Ontario — Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 17,036 vehicles in December 2013, an increase of nearly 17 per cent from December 2012. For 2013, sales were up nearly 4 per cent in Canada with Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivering 234,944 vehicles.
“Consumer response to our award-winning launch products drove a strong close for 2013,” said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing, General Motors of Canada. “The GMC Sierra, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada’s Best New Pickup and the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, AJAC’s Best New Sports / Performance Car, both experienced double digit increases in December.”
Major upcoming launches include all-new large SUVs for Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet and the award-winning Cadillac ELR. As well, the all-new heavy-duty and mid-size pickups for Chevrolet and GMC, which will round out GM’s three truck strategy to meet the needs of the broadest possible customer base by letting them choose precisely the right truck to meet their needs.
December 2013 Sales Highlights
- All four GMCL brands’ total sales increased for the month
- Chevrolet 9.1 per cent
- Buick 34.2 per cent
- GMC 22.9 per cent
- Cadillac 50.5 per cent
- Chevrolet Silverado sales were up 10 per cent for the month
- GMC Sierra sales were up 37 per cent for the month
- December represented the 15th consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth for Cadillac, driven by strong sales of ATS, SRX and the all-new 2014 CTS Sedan, which was named Motor Trend Car of the Year
- GMCL mid-size crossovers were up 34 per cent for the month (Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia)
2013 Highlights (versus 2012)
- Total GMCL sales increased by nearly 4 per cent, retail sales increased by nearly 3 per cent and fleet sales increased by six per cent
- All four GMCL brands’ total sales increased for the year
- Chevrolet 0.2 per cent
- Buick 9.5 per cent
- GMC 5.4 per cent
- Cadillac 44.6 per cent
- GMCL small / compact SUV/MPV sales increased 11 per cent (Chevrolet Trax, Orlando and Equinox, GMC Terrain and Buick Encore)
- Sales of GMCL’s mini/small vehicles were up 26 per cent (Chevrolet Sonic and Spark)
- Cadillac’s nearly 50 per cent increase in retail sales established a new all-time Cadillac retail sales record
