TORONTO, ONTARIO – November 8th, 2021 – It’s the perfect vehicle for your weekend getaway – and also your sanctuary from the everyday. Fun to drive, flexible, and packed with advanced yet user-friendly technology, the Highlander Hybrid is a mobile command centre for your busy yet rewarding lifestyle. New this year, Toyota Canada introduces the Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition, a limited production model featuring unique details and an exclusive body colour. The Bronze Edition headlines a 10-vehicle lineup, offering a choice of powertrains and trim levels to suit every taste and budget.

“Highlander always rises to the occasion with grace and poise – making it an ideal vehicle for busy couples and families on the go,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “This year, in addition to a new special edition, we’ve also upgraded many models with new standard features that enhance comfort.”

Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the 2022 Toyota Highlander expresses a powerful stance and a sophisticated attitude. More than just a head-turning ride, the Highlander’s sculpted body also delivers significant aerodynamic improvements. These help maximize fuel efficiency while reducing noise, vibration, and harshness.

Inside, there’s room for seven adults in models that feature front-row and second-row captain’s chairs. If a little more people space is needed, models that feature a second-row bench seat can accommodate up to eight adults. Second-row and third-row seats fold away easily when more space is needed for cargo, making Highlander incredibly versatile, too. Large doors provide easy access to the third row and everyone will enjoy Highlander’s surprisingly spacious and modern cabin. Drivers will love the attention they receive, with power-adjustable driver’s seat and intuitive consoles that place instrumentation and controls close at hand.

Under the hood, the Highlander lineup provides a range of choices to suit every taste and budget.

Highlander Hybrid models feature the Toyota Hybrid Drive – the most popular and proven electrified power train on the planet. This system, custom-configured for the Highlander Hybrid, is built around an Atkinson cycle 2.5L four-cylinder engine coupled to a continuously variable transmission. The Highlander Hybrid achieves 243 peak horsepower and a fuel efficiency rating of just 6.7L / 100km (city/highway combined) – and never needs to be plugged in.

Those who favour conventional powertrains will find a selection of Highlanders built around a powerful and efficient 3.5L V6 coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers a peak 295 horsepower and a fuel efficiency rating of 8.5L / 100km (city/highway combined).

All models feature an impressive bundle of powerful yet intuitive technologies plus comfort and convenience amenities. Every model includes a touchscreen-equipped display audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a multi-information display, Toyota’s Smart Key System with Push Button Start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, electronic parking brake, and LED headlamps. Additional features vary by trim level.

A long list of standard safety systems includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 – Toyota’s bundle of active safety technologies that help extend the driver’s awareness and ability to avoid collisions, or mitigate their effect. Features in this bundle include left turn intersection support, a risk avoidance system with semi-automated steering, and front-to-front risk detection. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control features curve speed management. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist includes enhanced line and road recognition. Lane Trace Assist features quicker control and stability after a lane change. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Star Safety System, the Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a back-up camera, and eight air bags.
