BMW Motorsport News – Issue 29/2017.

Whether in the DTM, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar
Championship, or countless other championships: Week after week BMW
teams and drivers around the world do battle for points, victories
and titles. Away from the track too, members of the large BMW
Motorsport family around the world are also creating headlines. The
“BMW Motorsport News” allows us to regularly summarise all the
action for you in a compact and informative manner. This way, you
are always up to speed.

BTCC: BMW 125i M Sport on the podium four times.

The West Surrey Racing team British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)
2017 season success story continued at the sixth race weekend. In the
three races at Snetterton (GBR), the Sunbury-on-Thames (GBR) team
celebrated a total of four podiums. The team had reason to celebrate
twice: while Colin Turkington (GBR) in second place and Rob Collard
(GBR) in third place made it onto the podium in race two, they swapped
positions in race three. In the opening race of the Snetterton
weekend, Turkington and Collard, in the BMW 125i M Sport, crossed the
finish line in seventh and ninth place. By contrast, their team-mate
Andrew Jordan (GBR) was extremely unlucky. He led the third race for
some time, but then lost speed in dramatic fashion and was in 21st
place when he saw the chequered flag. He finished fourth and sixth in
the first two races. In the drivers’ standings, Turkington is in
second place, and with 219 points is just two points behind the
leader. Collard is right behind him in third place, with 217 points.

BMW Motorsport Juniors: Joel Eriksson on the podium in Spa.

As part of the 24-hour weekend, BMW Motorsport Junior Joel Eriksson
(SWE) celebrated success on the track in Spa-Francorchamps (BEL). In
the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, which held three races in the
run-up to the 24-hour race, the 19-year-old clinched two podiums. In
race two on Friday, the Swede delivered an impressive catch-up
performance, which brought him up into second place. In the third race
on Saturday afternoon he finished second on the podium once again.
Eriksson is currently third in the championship standings.
