Best in communication design: Audi wins “Red Dot: Client of the Year” award

“The Audi brand is always seeking for new ways to express our design philosophy – with surprising ideas, unusual formats and creative implementation. We and our partners are therefore delighted by this honor,” says Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG.

The Red Dot Design Awards are bestowed on companies and their commissioned agencies by an international jury of design experts. This was the third year, following 2010 and 2011, that Audi was able to take home the cross-sector “Client of the Year” award: “Audi has set itself apart by breaking new ground in communication design and proving that these decisions are trendsetting. The brand has demonstrated its ability to fascinate the public again and again with a unique and innovative symbiosis of design and technology,” explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award.

Among the award-winning individual projects, the brand’s exhibition at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show was singled out for the especially coveted “Red Dot: Best of the Best” title. At the world’s most important electronics trade fair in Las Vegas, visitors had the opportunity to experience innovations from Audi regarding vehicle connectivity as well as light and sound technologies in a trade fair stand designed as a black cube. As an opening, this “black box” featured a gigantic cone of light that served as the stage for three special automobiles.

Eight other communication projects of the brand, implemented by seven agencies, are also recipients of a Red Dot Design Award 2013 – from the temporary urban installation “Audi Sphere” in Copenhagen all the way to “Audi car chat”, an online dialog platform. An elaborately produced film that presents the history of Audi on a 180-degree panoramic screen in the museum mobile at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt is yet another landmark in communication design: “We show what has made Audi unique for over 100 years: mobility in its most emotional form,” says Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition.

The Red Dot Design Award is presented by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen in the independent disciplines of product design, communication design and design concepts. This year’s awards ceremony in the communication design category will be held this evening at the Konzerthaus on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt square.
