Audi Q3 is “Best in Class” in the 2011 Euro NCAP crash tests

The Audi Q3 was honored as “Best in Class” in the category “Small Off-Road 4×4” by the European consumer protection initiative Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). The model received five stars – the highest possible score – for passive crash safety.

The scores awarded by the testers to the Q3 for driver and passenger protection in frontal and side impact collisions easily earned the car the top rating of five stars. Children are also very well protected in the new Audi Q3. Euro NCAP also assesses, among other things, the fasten seatbelt reminder for the front and in particular the rear seat passengers. The Audi Q3 comes standard with both systems.

Ensuring protection for pedestrians is an important concern for Audi. The Q3 features a front end specially designed for this requirement that helps to mitigate the consequences of a collision. This is reflected in the model’s good score for pedestrian protection.

The Audi A6 also received five stars. The results for adult occupant protection in a frontal or side collision and the child safety and pedestrian protection place the new Audi A6 among the safest cars in its class.

Audi also places maximum value on active safety, going above and beyond the measures assessed by Euro NCAP. The Audi A6, for example, offers an integrated passenger protection system with its standard daytime running lights and the optional night vision assistant with pedestrian alert function. Other driver assistance systems include Audi active lane assist and the all-weather light with variable headlight range control.

Euro NCAP tested 53 cars for safety last year. The cars were assessed in the four categories Adult Protection, Child Protection, Pedestrian Protection and Driver Assistance Systems. Both the Audi Q3 and the Audi A6 achieved outstanding results in these categories.

Founded in 1997, the NCAP consortium is made up of international representatives from European transport ministries, automobile associations, insurers and consumer protection organizations. It performs extensive testing of the crash performance of new cars. The demanding test requirements of Euro NCAP far exceed the standards of European lawmakers.
