Atsuhiko Hayakawa is vice president, Manufacturing Operations, Nissan Brazil. He was named to this post effective Jan. 1, 2012. In this role, Hayakawa oversees Nissan’s all-new manufacturing facility in Resende, located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Construction of the plant is underway, representing an investment of over 2.6 billion BRL ($1.5 billion*). The Brazilian factory, scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2014, will have the capacity to produce up to 200,000 units annually of Nissan’s ‘V’ platform products for sale in Brazil. The factory will directly create up to 2,000 jobs, and at least double that within the supply chain and wider community.

Most recently, Hayakawa was vice president and plant manager for the Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Plant at Oppama, Japan. He joined Nissan in 1982 and, since then, has held positions of increasing responsibility mainly in the Powertrain Engineering Department. His Nissan career has included an assignment at Nissan Mexicana from 1994 through 1997.

Hayakawa has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Waseda University.
