And the winner is: ŠKODA Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI DPF/103 kW (2006) at 33rd ŠKODA Economy Run. The driver team Jiří Pilný and Petr Šíma managed to achieve the lowest consumption of all participants in a ŠKODA Octavia at only 2.95 l/100 km (95.756 MPG) at the traditional fuel-saving competition.nbsp; The achieved fuel consumption is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 77.88 g/km.
The 33rd Economy Run took place on 20 September 2014. “It was made clear once again at this year’s ŠKODA Economy Run how efficiently and economically you can get from A to B in a ŠKODA,” says Roman Havlásek, Head of After Sales at ŠKODA AUTO. “We would like to congratulate Jiří Pilný and Petr Šíma on achieving such an excellent result of just 2.95 l/100 km. Reducing vehicle consumption and emissions across the entire range is of the highest priority for ŠKODA. The results show that we are on the right track, and ŠKODA has significantly improved these vales step by step.”
A total of 48 teams took part in this year’s ŠKODA Economy Run. At the one-day competition, only ŠKODA vehicles were registered, running on either gasoline or diesel. The starting and finishing line of the 309km route was Kosmonosy near the headquarters in Mladá Boleslav. There was a brief pit stop at the ŠKODA AUTO plant in Kvasiny.
For many years, ŠKODA has been the official partner of the ŠKODA Economy Run. The ŠKODA Customer Service department was responsible for the technical preparation and checks of vehicles, as well as the technical organisation of the event. All vehicle servicing took place at the ŠKODA Service Centre in Kosmonosy.
Divided into five categories, the participants were assessed on the basis of the lowest CO2 emissions, calculated from the vehicle’s total consumption. The average speed achieved and the difference between the actual consumption and the standard consumption (from the manufacturer’s handbook) were also taken into account. In cases where identical consumption and CO2 emissions were recorded, the higher average speed or larger engine capacity was the decisive factor.
A new device developed in partnership with ŠKODA will be used for the first time this year: The electronic measurement tool can more accurately determine how much fuel has been used on the trip by calculating the precise amount of fuel in each tank before and after the competition. Each tank is only filled to 75% capacity. Calculating the difference between the two measurements provides the exact amount of fuel consumed. Until now, the vehicles have each started on a full tank and the amount of fuel consumed has been measured at the finishing line based on the amount of fuel left in the tank.
ŠKODA is working hard to reduce the consumption and CO2 emissions across their entire range. In total, 18 ŠKODA models and model versions produce CO2 emissions of less than 100 g/km, and 97 ŠKODA models emit less than 120g CO2/km. It is the ŠKODA GreenLine and Green tec models that offer the most environmentally friendly mobility. These versions are available for each series in the ŠKODA range. Another important pillar in this environmental campaign is the natural gas engine.nbsp; ŠKODA offers three attractive G-TEC models – the Citigo G-TEC, Octavia G-TEC und Octavia Estate G-TEC. ŠKODA offers individual mobility, starting at only 79g CO2/km with the natural gas powered city car – the ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC.
The new third generation ŠKODA Fabia will be setting the latest benchmarks in environmentally friendly mobility in autumn 2014. The completely redesigned small car is up to 17% more economical than its predecessor. The Fabia GreenLine, available towards the end of 2015, will run on an average of only 3.1 l diesel/100km, 91 MPG, emitting just 82 g CO2/km.
