MONTREAL (Thursday, January 16, 2014) – The all-new 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible and 2014 Malibu made their Canadian debuts today at the 2014 Montreal International Auto Show.
Arriving in Chevrolet showrooms this spring, the all-new Tahoe offers more functionality, greater refinement, new safety features and an increased range of advanced technologies to appeal to a distinct customer. The all-new styling advances Tahoe design, which contributes to a quieter ride on the inside. Under the hood, a more efficient, direct-injected EcoTec3 engine coupled with improved aerodynamics help offer greater highway efficiency based on GM testing while preserving overall performance and capability.
New functionality and technology features for 2015, include:
- Fold-flat second- and third-row seats that enhance cargo convenience – including an available power-folding feature
- Approximately 50mm (two inches) greater legroom for second-row passengers, along with easier entry/exit
- Available eight-inch color touch screen radio with next-generation MyLink connectivity
- Up to six USB ports and six power outlets – including a 110-volt three-prong outlet – to support electronic devices of all kinds (up to 12 charging locations)
- Conversation mirror in the overhead console that provides a panoramic view of the rear seats
- Keyless entry and push-button start.
EcoTec3 powertrain
Tahoe’s standard 5.3L V-8 feature state-of-the-art technologies, including direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system, designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.
Improved engine mounts, electronic throttle control, adaptive exhaust systems, improved aerodynamics and other technologies help the engines operate in four-cylinder mode more often with Active Fuel Management, further increasing efficiency.
The engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission, featuring TapShift control, Tow/Haul mode and Auto Grade Braking.
The new Tahoe will be built at GM’s Arlington, Texas assembly plant. Both vehicles are scheduled to arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2014.
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible
With a starting price of under $59,000, the Corvette Stingray Convertible shares the identical chassis tuning and performance technologies with the coupe. They also share near identical curb weights, as the only structural changes for the convertible model are limited to accommodations for the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. From the very beginning, the all-new Stingray was designed and engineered to be a convertible as well.
The convertible features an all-new fully electronic top that can be lowered remotely using the key fob and operates at up to 45 kilometres per hour.
The 2015 model year Corvette Stingray will be available with an industry-first Performance Data Recorder. The fully integrated system enables users to record high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track. This system combines the ability to record and share videos with the power of a professional-level motorsports telemetry system.
This is also the most powerful standard Corvette model ever, with an SAE certified 455 horsepower and 460 pound feet of torque, and 460 horsepower when equipped with the available performance exhaust system. It is also the most capable standard Corvette ever, with the Z51 equipped models able to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in less than four seconds and achieve 1.04 G’s in cornering grip and stop from 100 kilometres per hour in just 32 metres.
Chevrolet today unveiled the 2014 Malibu – a roomier, more refined and more efficient execution of its midsize sedan. Updated styling, a revised interior, a new 2.5L standard engine and suspension enhancements highlight the changes.
The new and enhanced features include:
• Revised front-end appearance
• Roomier rear seat with 1.25 inches (31.7 mm) more knee room
• Redesigned centre console
• New 2.5L engine with variable valve lift control and start/stop technology helps deliver estimated fuel consumption of 8.7 L/100km city and 5.6 L/100km highway – a 5-percent improvement in city and 2-percent greater highway efficiency
• Nearly 14 percent more torque from the available 2.0L turbo engine – 295 lb-ft of torque (400 Nm) – engineered for a greater feeling of power on demand
• Suspension enhancements derived from the all-new 2014 Impala engineered to contribute to a more refined driving experience
• New available Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety features
Malibu’s revised front-end appearance is influenced by the all-new Impala, creating a more cohesive look across Chevrolet’s sedan lineup. The front fascia features a new, more prominent lower grille and the hood extends down and over the leading edge of a narrower upper grille. The grille openings – with black grille texture – are wider and accented with chrome.
An all-new Ecotec 2.5L Intake Valve Lift Control (iVLC) DOHC four-cylinder engine with direct injection is the 2014 Malibu’s standard engine. Its variable intake valve actuation enhances efficiency and helps lower emissions, while also enhancing low-rpm torque, for a greater feeling of power at lower speeds. When the iVLC system operates in low-lift mode, the engine pumps only the air it needs to meet the driver’s demand. The system switches to high-lift mode at higher speeds or under heavy loads, providing the full output capability of the engine.
New start/stop technology shuts down the 2.5L engine to save fuel when the Malibu stops momentarily, such as at stoplights, contributing to an estimated 5-percent decrease in city fuel consumption. The engine automatically starts again when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake. An auxiliary battery powers electric accessories such as the climate system, power windows and radio during engine restarts.
The new 2.5L is SAE-certified at 196 horsepower (145 kW) and 186 lb-ft of torque (253 Nm). Revised transmission shift points and quicker shifts also enhance the feeling of performance – while delivering greater refinement.
