COLOGNE, Germany, Nov. 3, 2011 – Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally will be on hand on Nov. 9 to launch volume production of Ford’s newest and smallest EcoBoost engine at a special event at Ford’s newly revamped Cologne Engine Plant.

Ford’s chief executive will be joined by Hannelore Kraft, prime minister of the regional state of North Rhine Westphalia, and Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, mayor of Cologne, for the celebration of the launch of the high-tech 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.

The new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine joins a global range of advanced, turbocharged and direct injected petrol engines designed to deliver high power from smaller capacities – reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions without sacrificing performance.

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will deliver 125PS with a CO2 performance of less than 120g/km when it debuts in the European Ford Focus early next year. The engine will be offered in several vehicles in Europe, including the C-MAX and B-MAX in 2012, as well as Ford vehicles around the world.  Ford will announce more details on Nov. 9.

Volume production of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has been made possible through Ford’s investment in cutting-edge manufacturing at the Cologne Engine Plant – the lead site for 1.0-litre EcoBoost production – where 26 million engines have been produced by Ford since 1962.

Media are invited to view a live-stream of proceedings from 13.15 CET on Nov. 9, at http://live.fordmedia.eu/ with press materials available at http://1l-ecoboost.fordmedia.eu/.
