The blur that just passed you as if you were standing still? Oh, that was the 2012 Volkswagen Golf R. We invited Jamie Vondruska, founder of VW Vortex and expert on All Things Volkswagen, to take a spin in one at our recent Full-Line Dynamic Drive event.
The 2012 Golf R offers an impressive 256 horsepower and latest-generation 4Motion all-wheel-drive and goes from zero to 60 in under six seconds. So what did Jamie think? “This is the Über-Golf,” Jamie states. “It sets the bar pretty high.” He also had high praise for the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder FSI® engine, which puts out a powerful 250 pound-feet of torque: “I’ve driven every generation of the R model that’s been out so far, and this is by far the liveliest version.” He’s right, you know: the 2012 Golf R is the most powerful Golf ever sold in the US.
