Nissan: Drivers battle technical, 21-turn course during the second weekend of Nissan Micra Cup racing

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Two historic series firsts marked the second weekend of Nissan Micra Cup racing in 2018. For the first time, both races were extended by 10-minutes to 40-minutes total but held on two different length tracks. The new features added to an already extremely technical Calabogie course, which includes 21 turns on the long 5.5km track described by American driver Mike Ogren in the latest Micra Cup video release as, “challenging, with a lot of blind corners.”

After Jake Exton was disqualified from Saturday’s race due to failure to meet the minimum weight requirements, the video introduces the Micra Cup officials that are responsible for ensuring that all vehicle regulations are met.

Unique to the Micra Cup and what creates such tight races is that all vehicles have identical stock model engines with no modifications allowed. Manuel da Costa, the technical services manager, and Gilles Villeneuve, the sports director, discuss the process the team goes through to check the engine seals and ensure that the minimum weight requirements are met for fair competition.

Fans can check out all of the action from Calabogie in the latest edition of Micra Cup Magazine, attached, and in the full recap release, here. Included in the magazine is an interview with the first Nissan employee to compete in the series, American Mike Ogren and a spotlight on two-time Super Production Challenge series champion, Marc Héroux, who debuted in the Micra Cup in Calabogie.

The next Micra Cup event will take place at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant, in the Laurentian region of Quebec on July 28-29.
