“You can only make the best of your possibilities and we have clearly heavier cars here than BMW,” said the Briton, who was short barely four tenths of a second of clinching the top spot on the grid. “I’m pleased with the work in the team between free practice and qualifying. Balance was clearly better. I was a lot happier in the car. Unfortunately, on my second trial, I didn’t have a clear outlap. Here at Zandvoort, that’s a problem with the sand because the tires no longer have optimal grip in that case. I feel like I didn’t quite extract the optimum.”
The second-fastest Audi driver was Miguel Molina in the Teufel Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline in position ten. The other grid positions for Audi: 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 19 and 21.
