MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – Today, Nissan announced the launch of a new national television campaign for the Nissan Micra featuring professional race car driver, Alex Tagliani, Nissan, working with its Quebec-based creative agency, TAM-TAM/TBWA, developed two different versions of the same television spot: one for English Canada and one for French Canada. Both versions feature Montreal native, Alex Tagliani, and are identical in format and premise, but feature different supporting talent for the respective language markets. The 30-second television spot is the first featuring the Nissan Micra since the subcompact vehicle’s market launch in April of 2014.
The television spot incorporates the Nissan Micra Cup, and was developed and filmed entirely in Quebec, where the Nissan Micra Cup series is currently executing its inaugural season. At a stop light, Alex Tagliani pulls up in a Micra Cup race car to a Nissan Micra SR carrying a young man taking the Micra out for a test-drive, accompanied by a Nissan sales representative. The driver of the Nissan Micra SR makes eye contact with the Canadian racing legend, and initiates a challenge to see who can pull away from the light the fastest, much to the chagrin of the Nissan sales representative. True-to-life, Alex Tagliani, after applying the throttle, quickly leaves his competitor in his rear view mirror.
“The Nissan Micra is known for its fun-to-drive factor, affordability, and reliability, and the Nissan Micra Cup is all about having fun and pushing the limits on the track. So, when we decided to develop new, full-length television spots for Micra, we were inspired by the Nissan Micra Cup, and wanted to work with talent who would capture the upbeat, yet dynamic elements both the Nissan Micra production car and the Micra Cup series offer,” said Christian Meunier, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “We found the best possible star to accomplish this goal in Alex Tagliani! Everyone at Nissan is honoured to see this Canadian motorsport icon stand behind Micra. Alex Tagliani’s illustrious racing career and charismatic personality lend themselves perfectly to a television spot which is amusing and light-hearted, and does justice to both the Nissan Micra and the spec series in its name.”
The new Nissan Micra television spot developed for English Canada launches today, July 6.
