2019 Santa Fe Production Begins at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama

  • Alabama plant will produce 84,000 Santa Fes in 2018 to meet growing demand in the sport utility segment
  • The plant is also home of the Sonata and Elantra sedans


MONTGOMERY, Ala.,
June 1, 2018 –Production of the all-newly redesigned 2019 Santa Fe began today at Hyundai Motor Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA). During the balance of 2018, the plant plans to produce more than 84,000 of the Hyundai crossover vehicle to meet the growing demand in this popular segment. HMMA will continue to produce the popular Sonata and Elantra sedans.

“We’re thrilled about the design and technological features of this generation Santa Fe,” said Dong Ryeol Choi, president and CEO, HMMA. “This SUV features Forward Collision-avoidance Assist; Safe Exit Assist to warn drivers if a car is approaching when they exit the vehicle; and Rear Occupant Alert to remind drivers to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle.”

President Choi added, “As we launch the new Santa Fe, take pride in every step of the production process – build each SUV as if it were your own. We must challenge ourselves to achieve the highest quality levels while producing the Santa Fe, Sonata and Elantra.”

HMMA’s nearly 3,000 Team Members and local dignitaries celebrated the official start of production with vehicle roll-off ceremony and parade lead by the 2019 Santa Fe throughout the Montgomery, Alabama plant.

Since late 2017, the plant has been coordinating retooling, robot programming and other logistical projects to prepare for start of production on June 1.
