The Real Truck, Ready For Anything: The Toyota 4Runner Blends Capability And Comfort, And Introduces The New Venture Edition For The 2020 Model Year

2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro 01

TORONTO, ON – August 28, 2019 – Your life takes you off the well-worn path. Your truck needs to keep up. The Toyota 4Runner is ready. The 4Runner combines authentic go-anywhere performance with top-notch safety, remarkable comfort and style, and more. New for 2020, Toyota introduces the all-new, ruggedly stylish 4Runner Venture – and adds Toyota Safety Sense P, Connected Services by Toyota, and a pile of new amenities as standard equipment on all trim levels.

“The 4Runner is the authentic 4×4 for the modern adventurer,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Based on Toyota’s heritage of building impressive trucks that conquer any terrain and weather that the planet throws at them, the 4Runner is ready for anything you can throw at it.”

All new this year, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture (Starting MSRP: $55,390) wears the 4Runner’s rugged heritage proudly. Built off the TRD Off-Road model, the five-person 4Runner Venture features Predator side steps, 17” TRD Pro wheels, and roof rack cross bars. It’s then finished in a choice of Super White, Magnetic Grey Metallic or Midnight Black Metallic – all with Black SofTex seating and black exterior detailing, including badge overlays, mirrors, door handles, roof spoiler, shark fin antenna and wheel arches. (Other available models include seven-person SR5, Limited and Nightshade, plus five-person TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro, all detailed below.)

While the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture is the biggest update to the 4Runner line-up, every model and trim level receives new gear, too. Updates for the 2020 model year include the following as standard on all models: Toyota Safety Sense P, Connected Services by Toyota, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility, the Toyota Smart Key System with Push Button Start, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a 4.2” full-colour multi-information display and two additional USB ports in the rear seating area.

At its heart, though, the 4Runner is an authentic SUV – and that means go-anywhere power and performance, with no compromises. Every 2020 4Runner is built around a proven 4.0L V6 with sequential multiport electronic fuel injection and other engine management technologies that help it deliver 270 peak horsepower and up to 278 lb-ft of torque while also maximizing efficiency and minimizing emissions. A heavy duty battery, starter, alternator and heater make sure 4Runner is reliable and comfortable in all weather – even the harshest Canadian winter – while a stainless steel exhaust has been included for longevity.

This power plant is mated to Toyota’s five-speed super electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive, lockup torque converter and transmission cooler and delivers power to the wheels via a one-touch, on-demand 4WD system enhanced with Active Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control. All 4Runners are factory-fitted with a tow hitch, 4+7 pin wiring harness, and Trailer Sway Control technology, and are ready to haul up to 2,268 kgs (5,000 lbs.).

4Runner’s no-nonsense capability is immediately expressed through its powerful presence, curb-side or camp-side. Heavy-duty body-on-frame construction is complemented by bold body styling, accented by fender flares, roof rails, running boards, rear spoiler, and alloy wheels. Notable exterior features include foldable power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors with integrated signal lamps, a power moon roof and fog lamps. Many grade-specific details separate the models while giving 4Runner a family look.

Inside, 4Runner’s cabin offers comfort and space for five or seven people (depending on model). Front row seats are power adjustable and heated, while the 40/20/40 split second row seats recline up to 16 degrees for additional comfort, and are equipped with a one-touch fold down feature for quick conversion to cargo-hauling. Seven-passenger models feature split-folding third-row seats.

As a modern adventure vehicle, every 4Runner is well equipped with powerful yet easy to use technology, too. The display audio system features Connected Services by Toyota, an 8” touchscreen, integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio, USB audio input, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, steering wheel mounted controls, and more.

Other features standard on all models include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 4.2” multi-information display, cruise control, fuel economy meter, eco drive monitor, trip computer, outside temperature gauge, power windows with auto up/down for all windows, a power vertical sliding rear window, map lamps, cargo area lamp, rear door courtesy lamp, the Toyota Smart Key System with Push Button Start, an integrated garage door opener, four 12V auxiliary power outlets, cargo area tie-down rings and side storage compartments, and more.

And because it’s a Toyota, the 2020 4Runner is impressively equipped with safety systems and technologies, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense P. Standard on every 4Runner, this bundle of active safety technologies – including the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control – enhances driver capabilities to mitigate collisions, stay in lane, and see at night. Other safety technologies standard on all 4Runner models include the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, active front headrests with whiplash protection, a back-up camera, direct tire pressure monitoring system, and more.

The Toyota 4Runner is offered in a broad choice of models and trim levels. In addition to the 4Runner Venture detailed above, these include:
