Tuner-Designer John Pangilinan the First to Receive Hyundai SEMA Award
COSTA MESA, Nov. 7, 2012 – Hyundai has awarded its first SEMA President’s Choice award to the JP Edition Hyundai Veloster Turbo, built by tuner and designer John Pangilinan. Pangilinan, known by the tuner community simply as “John P.,” is the first Hyundai SEMA tuner to receive the President’s Choice award for best Hyundai SEMA Concept. In consultation with paint supplier BASF, the JP Edition Veloster incorporates a brilliant mint green exterior finish, attracting the attention of SEMA attendees throughout the show.
“Selecting our first SEMA President’s Choice wasn’t easy,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai’s booth was loaded with seven innovative concepts building upon our popular Veloster, Genesis Coupe, and Elantra GT models. In the end, though, I couldn’t resist the JP Edition Veloster. The distinctive mint green paint, wide fender flares and blacked-out wheel package was just a cleanly-integrated overall vehicle concept. Congratulations, John!”
“I’m thrilled to receive the President’s Choice award from Hyundai this year,” said John Pangilinan, creator of the JP Edition Veloster concept. “In creating the JP Edition Veloster, we were inspired to take the Veloster’s distinctive design cues and accentuate them with an iris-warping brilliant mint green exterior finish. The JP Edition Veloster concept takes the Veloster production car into ultra-exclusive tuner-car territory.” John P. will receive an honorary plaque for the award, as well as a $5,000 honorarium for his efforts with this Hyundai concept.
The JP Edition’s 1.6-liter, direct-injected Veloster Turbo engine receives an ARK performance exhaust, while the suspension adds KW coilovers, Whiteline sway bars and anti-lift kit, and a Brembo® big brake kit. Blacked-out Ray’s Gram Lights Xtreme57 Wheels and Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires perfectly fill the bright mint green TS Designs fender flares by designer Jon Sibal.
