Nissan: Nissan Canada Foundation renews partnership with the Mississauga Food Bank

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – Today, the Nissan Canada Foundation and The Mississauga Food Bank announced they will deepen their relationship as the Nissan Canada Foundation renews its support as the food bank’s “Champion Sponsor” for 2016 and 2017. Nissan – through the Nissan Canada Foundation – will provide volunteer support and sponsor several food drives, including the city-wide Holiday Food and Fundraising Drive in December where the Nissan Canada Foundation will be the leading sponsor.

“Today as we announce this renewal that will continue our Foundation’s work with The Mississauga Food Bank, I can feel this sense of pride around me, making this joyful occasion an even greater pleasure for me, as newly-appointed president, to be part of,” said Joni Paiva, president of Nissan Canada Inc.

The Mississauga Food Bank is the central food bank in Mississauga, where the Nissan Canadian head office has been situated since 1989. The Mississauga Food Bank has been providing food for over 2.2-million meals each year through its network of member agencies including neighbourhood food banks, before-school breakfast clubs, youth-at-risk drop-in programs, hot meal programs, youth and family shelters, and emergency food pantries. These agencies are located in areas of the city where need is highest, and in locations that can be easily accessed by those who need emergency food support.

“We provide food for 183,000 meals each month and we can’t do that without the generous support of partners like the Nissan Canada Foundation,” says Chris Hatch, executive director of The Mississauga Food Bank. “To say we are grateful for the Nissan Canada Foundation’s support for the past 10 years would be an understatement. We’re delighted to continue working with Nissan employees to achieve our shared vision of a Mississauga where no one goes hungry.”

As “Champion” sponsor, The Nissan Canada Foundation will continue paying close attention to local community needs with their summer Food for Thought Food Drive. As donations to The Mississauga Food Bank fall dramatically in the summer months, the Nissan Canada Foundation will rally together Nissan Canada employees from the head office and local dealerships – Direct Nissan and Woodchester Nissan – to raise food and funds at this critical time.

“The city of Mississauga is our home, our employees and dealers have spent two decades giving back to this community, hoping to have a meaningful impact. Today we honour this work by reaffirming our commitment to continuing the fight against hunger in this city,” concluded Paiva.
