A little extra light goes a long way—ask anyone who’s ever driven on a dark road, with potential hazards just out of their headlights’ reach. A pedestrian on the side of the road, a deer darting across the lanes, a sharp, unexpected turn—driving in darkness means driving with caution.

Ford understands how nerve-wracking the experience is, which is why we’re currently developing and testing new technologies in Germany. We want to assist drivers and go the extra mile to make unlit roads safe.

Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System widens the beam at junctions and roundabouts to better illuminate hazards outside the direction of travel. And new Spot Lighting technology helps draw the driver’s attention to pedestrians, cyclists and even large animals in the vehicle’s path or even just off the road.

Our innovative approach to safety has inspired the use of technologies that would have seamlessly fit into the sci-fi films of yesteryear—intelligent, GPS-enabled infrared cameras that remember the twists and turns in the road, interior display screens that bring attention to hazards, and dynamic headlights that swivel to reveal more of the roadway are all part of the future of Ford driving.

One day in the future, we’ll be lighting the way to safety like never before.
