Honda Automobiles: 2015 Honda CR-V

Overview
With its roomy and versatile cabin that allows various configurations for spacious occupant accommodations, a large cargo capacity and lots of standard amenities, the CR-V belies its compact external dimensions. For 2015, Honda’s benchmark compact SUV gets even better, with multiple upgrades that increase driving enjoyment and ease. These changes and additions include such things as standard sliding sunvisors, heated front seats available at a lower trim level, and newly available features including a driver’s seat with two-position memory and a power tailgate.

  • Rear console ducts (see Interior section)
  • Available auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Available HomeLink®1 Remote System
  • Available power tailgate (see Exterior section)

Front Seats
For 2015, the driver’s seat of the new CR-V Touring features a two-position memory capability. A power driver’s seat and heated front seats are now standard on the EX (previously standard on the upper-trim EX-L). The comfort-padded front seats include a wide surface with supportive side bolsters that give the seats a secure feel particularly when cornering. The driver’s seat height can be adjusted manually on the LX trim and is power-adjustable on EX and above trims. The CR-V’s front seats provide a car-like orientation but still with a commanding vantage point.

Smart Entry and Push Button Start/Stop
For the first time, the CR-V EX and above trims include the upscale convenience of the Smart Entry Push Button Start/Stop system. The system simplifies approaching, entering and operating the CR-V – especially when the driver is carrying items. To gain entry to vehicle, the driver simply pulls one of the two front door handles while the remote in his or her possession.

Once the driver has opened the door and is seated, the driver simply pushes the START/STOP button positioned on the instrument panel while pressing the brake pedal to start the vehicle. Powertrain operation and certain electrical functions are ended when the START/STOP button is pressed again at the conclusion of the drive. After parking, a touch of the soft-touch lock button on either front door handle locks all doors and trunk to secure the car. Alternatively, a press of the LOCK button on the Smart Entry remote will also simultaneously lock all the doors and tailgate. The remote also includes a dedicated button that will unlock the tailgate only or will cause the power tailgate on the CR-V Touring trim to open. The Smart Entry system will not allow the transmitter fob to be locked in the interior of the CR-V. The LX trim CR-V retains the previous remote entry system.

Sliding Sunvisors
To provide more flexible shading from the sun, all CR-Vs now come standard with sliding sunvisors. The driver and front passenger sunvisors can now be moved 3.7 inches along their mounting shaft, a distance that provides perpendicular shade for the eyes even when the front seats are in their rear-most position.

Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror
New for the CR-V, the EX-L and Touring trims feature an electro chromatic interior rearview mirror that automatically dims during nighttime driving to reduce glare from the headlights of following vehicles.

HomeLink® Remote System
The CR-V Touring trim features a HomeLink® universal remote system that can be programmed with the codes of up to three devices, such as a garage-door opener or home security system.

Steering Wheel
The 2015 CR-V’s 3-spoke steering wheel features a wide range of manual tilt and telescoping adjustments to accommodate drivers of various sizes.

Climate Control
All CR-V models provide air conditioning as standard equipment. The front climate controls on the CR-V are mounted centrally on the instrument panel for easy accessibility and feature rotary knobs for temperature settings and fan control. Push buttons allow control of airflow through the various vents inside the vehicle (i.e. defrost, heater, split level, etc.). The CR-V LX and CR-V EX have a manual climate control system; the CR-V EX-L, EX-L Navi and Touring models features an automatic dual-zone system.

The CR-V’s micron air-filtration system is capable of filtering nearly 100 percent of particulates over 8 microns in size (the size of most pollen). It can also filter out approximately 40 percent of particulates down to 0.3 microns (about the size of diesel emissions). To improve cooling capacity, the high capacity condenser with integrated receiver drier runs the liquid refrigerant through a sub-cooling condenser, after the main condenser.

Maintenance Minder Display
All CR-V models have a Maintenance Minder system that tracks service-related items based on vehicle usage. The Maintenance Minder system automatically indicates when to have standard service performed based on actual driving conditions (tracked by the ECU) and minimizes the guesswork related to whether the vehicle is being used in standard or severe use conditions for maintenance interval purposes. The display indicates when to change the oil, air cleaner, transmission fluid, spark plugs or coolant, as well as when to rotate the tires. Maintenance Minder information appears in the MID and i-MID displays.

ECON Mode
Every 2015 CR-V is equipped with a green ECON button to the left of the steering wheel. This button engages ECON mode, in which several operating characteristics of the vehicle are modified for enhancing fuel efficiency. The Drive-by-Wire throttle system provides more gradual response, and to save additional energy, the climate control’s upper fan speeds are lowered incrementally, and other climate control system characteristics are altered based on the conditions. See the Powertrain section for more information on ECON Mode.

Engine Immobilizer
Complementing the remote entry system is a standard engine-immobilizer system. A special electronically coded key prevents the car from being started-even if a mechanical duplicate of the key is used. A transponder, built into the key, signals the immobilizer control unit that the key is genuine. If the car is hot-wired, or an unauthorized key is used, the engine will not start.

Power Windows and Locks
Power windows are standard equipment on all CR-V models and include auto-up and -down operation on the driver’s window. Power locks are standard, and a customizable auto-locking feature can be configured using the i-MID and steering-wheel mounted controls. Remote entry is standard equipment on all CR-V models. The wave key design (LX trim) has an integrated transmitter in the handle with lock, unlock, trunk open and panic buttons.
