Advanced Powertrain Lineup: Under the Hood with F-150

With the 2018 F-150 pickup, Ford engineers continue to redefine what it means to be tough, smart and capable. The new F-150 is more than just a rugged, bold exterior; everything under the hood has been updated to meet and exceed the evolving needs of hardworking truck owners across Canada.

But how do you meet, or even exceed, the needs of F-150 owners with 51 years of high expectations? You offer a powertrain lineup that enables best-in-class payload, towing, and gas mileage – and for the first time ever, an F-150 diesel engine.

Sure, you could just judge this book by its cover with an interactive tour of the 2018 F-150’s innovative design. But most will want to look beyond the aggressive design, lift up the hood on the new F-150, and break down the nitty gritty on the pickup’s most advanced powertrain offerings yet.

The 2018 F-150 offers even more engine choices that are more powerful and more efficient than ever before, making use of dual port and direct-injection technology throughout. Auto-Start-Stop is offered throughout the engine lineup, and the new F-150 also boasts an available, segment-exclusive SelectShift 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s about continuing to deliver more value, functionality, and the latest technology with a truck that exemplifies hard work.

The 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 sets the standard for fuel efficiency and bears the distinction of best-in-class mileage with an EPA-estimated rating of 11.7 l/100km for city driving, 9.0 l/100km for highway driving, and 10.6 l/100km combined.  It also delivers a 25 lb.–ft. increase in torque compared to traditional V8 engines, further proving that with EcoBoost engines, power and efficiency go hand-in-hand.

The 5.0-litre V8 boasts best-in-class payload with a monstrous capacity of 1,483 kg. The 2018 iteration of this engine puts advanced dual port and direct-injection technology to work to churn out an additional 10 horsepower and 13 lb.-.ft of torque.

Beating all diesel- and gasoline-powered competitors, the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 proves beastly with 470 lb. –ft of torque and 5,987 kg of towing capacity.  That’s more torque than competitor V8 engines with almost twice the displacement. For heavy payloads and towing heavy trailers, look no further than this 375-horsepower twin-turbo engine.

The all-new 3.3-litre V6 is more fuel-efficient and delivers improved performance, with more torque than the previously standard 3.5-litre V6.  Compared with the 2014 F-150 with a 3.7-litre V6, this all-new engine offers a 5 percent power-to-weight ratio improvement. That’s working smarter.

Ford engineers didn’t forget about diesel fans. For the first time ever, the F-150 powertrain lineup includes the all-new 3.0-litre Power Stroke turbo diesel V6 – the first diesel engine ever offered for F-150. This powerhouse engine joins the F-150 family in 2018.

With best-in-class payload, towing and gas mileage, the 2018 F-150 powertrain lineup is the most advanced ever. Paired with thoughtful design changes and its signature high-strength aluminum alloy body, you’ve got a truck that’s fit not just for a ton of hard work – but for a ton of play as well.
